About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It was launched in 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service, guided by the philosophy of “Education through Service.”

The motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You,” reflects its core ideal—placing the welfare of the community above self. Inspired by Gandhian values, the scheme seeks to instill in students the spirit of selfless service, empathy, discipline, leadership, and social responsibility.

Through diverse activities such as literacy drives, health awareness programs, environmental campaigns, blood donation camps, and disaster relief, NSS volunteers actively contribute to society. By bridging the gap between the institution and the community, NSS provides students with opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-life situations, thereby fostering qualities of teamwork, civic responsibility, and commitment to nation-building.

Objective

The NSS unit of Santipur College strives to nurture socially responsible and compassionate citizens by engaging students in constructive community service and nation-building activities. Our objectives are:

  1. To promote social awareness among students and encourage sensitivity to community issues.
  2. To inculcate the spirit of service, discipline, and leadership, enabling students to grow into responsible citizens.
  3. To bridge the gap between the college and the community through meaningful outreach programs.
  4. To foster national integration, communal harmony, and democratic values among students.

NSS at Santipur College aims to develop the following qualities and competencies in its volunteers:

  1. An understanding of the community and self in relation to society.
  2. The ability to identify community needs and actively participate in solving them.
  3. A strong sense of social and civic responsibility.
  4. The capacity to apply knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  5. Skills in mobilizing community participation and collective action.
  6. Leadership qualities, team spirit, and decision-making ability.
  7. Readiness to respond effectively to emergencies and natural disasters.
  8. Commitment to national integration, cultural diversity, and social harmony.

Through these endeavors, NSS at Santipur College seeks to build enduring linkages between Campus and Community, College and Village, and Knowledge and Action.
