Introduction

The Value Added Course (VAC) on Understanding India is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary understanding of India’s rich civilizational heritage, cultural diversity, constitutional values, socio-economic developments, and contemporary challenges.

The course seeks to cultivate informed citizenship, critical awareness, and a deeper appreciation of India’s historical evolution and present-day realities. It integrates perspectives from history, polity, economics, culture, science, environment, and society to help students develop a holistic understanding of the nation.

Aligned with the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this course promotes constitutional values, national integration, cultural sensitivity, and responsible citizenship.

Objective

The objectives of the VAC Understanding India are:

1. To introduce students to the historical foundations and civilizational legacy of India.
2. To develop awareness about India’s constitutional framework, democratic institutions, and fundamental duties.
3. To foster respect for India’s cultural, linguistic, and regional diversity.
4. To encourage critical thinking about contemporary socio-economic and environmental issues in India.
5. To promote national integration, ethical responsibility, and informed citizenship.
6. To help students connect academic knowledge with real-world national concerns.
