The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), introduced by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is a comprehensive and transparent system for ranking higher educational institutions across the country. It evaluates institutions based on well-defined parameters to promote excellence and accountability in higher education.

NIRF assesses institutions on the following five broad criteria:
